I've been writing all my life, making up stories and fantasizing I was living great adventures when I was a child, much like Walter Mitty. I remember once practicing my name and address, being ever-so-careful to write neatly, just like I learned in school. Unfortunately, I was writing on our neighbor's back door. They weren't home, and I guess I wanted to let them know I'd been there. Isn't that part of why we all write - to let someone know we were here?
Fast forward to the years when my two children were small, and I took up writing again - on paper. I had a few poems and essays published, and then took a vacation from writing for a dozen years or so. Since 2000 I've been writing in earnest: mostly poetry, with some essays, short stories and humor thrown into the mix.
My poems have been published in anthologies both in print and on CD-ROM, in newsletters, a newspaper and online in several places. I'm proud to say that I have also received Honorable Mentions in several contests, including Writer's Digest Writing Contest, '03, plus 3rd Place for Poetry and 1st Place for Nonfiction in the California Writers Club, San Fernando Valley Branch Writing Contest, '04. Best of all, writing allows me to dig deep and explore my feelings. I love to share my sometimes quirky vision of the world I see - or imagine. Poetry is wonderful therapy!
